About Us and Our Products

Wood Grain Pens is veteran owned and operated.

What are our customers saying about our work?

"Tom, I'd like to tell you, the humidor is really outstanding. Both my wife and I were incredibly  impressed with every detail. I'd say it exceeded my expectations in every way." Christopher, Pennsylvania

"Hi Tom, I received my pens today.
Wow. They are so beautiful. It feels so elegant to write with them. I am so happy that you gave new life to the koa wood that I sent you. I know they will bring me joy everyday when I use them. Thank you so much."  Kate, Washington

"Tom, I wanted to write to let you know that I received the pens today and they have far exceeded my expectations.  They are beautiful--real pieces of art. I assure you I will be re-ordering in the future." RaeLynn, California

"Thanks, Tom. The wine stopper is beautiful, Great work!" Dan in Minnesota

"Tom, I bought my sister a $400 Mont Blanc when she received her Master's Degree. Ever since she took my Premium Designer pen that you made for me, she hasn't touched her Mont Blanc once. Please make me another pen...." Mike in California

"I recently bought a slimline pen from you and I am very pleased with it. I thought I would share a little info with you about the pen. I have a bad habit of clipping my pen on the collar of my shirt and forgetting it and putting my shirt in the laundry. Well guess what, I did just that and the pen got a thorough cleaning and came out smelling like a rose. No damage. Thank you so much for a great product." Mack in California

"Tom, thank you. The pen arrived and is lovely. I know I shall really enjoy it." Maurice in New York

The metal parts of our pens are either 10K or 24K gold plated and have a clear epoxy coating. Some are even Rhodium plated for the durability of platinum. This process gives you a beautiful, durable finish. The epoxy coating allows the gold plating to remain brilliant without tarnishing or fading. I've personally handled my pen with oily/greasy hands and my pen still shines like the day it was made.

The wood we use is hand selected for grain, figuring and color.  I am on a constant endeavor to find unique wood grains. Most pen makers buy their wood in pre-cut blanks. I search for that perfect board and then cut it so that only the best looking grain and figuring is used. This is what sets our pens apart from the rest. If it doesn't look good, you won't want it. After the wood is sanded and polished, it is sealed with a finish that is water resistant and provides a high luster. It is safe and non-toxic. I use a minimum of 4 coats on each pen.

Note: The water resistance I mentioned above does not by any means imply that you can drop your pen in the water, swimming pool, lake, pond or commode, etc. and not see some damage from the water. It simply means that if your pen is in your pocket and you happen to be sweaty or damp, the finish won't cloud or lift.

The wood we use for our products is just that....wood. A naturally grown substance from good ol' Mother Earth. Since it is a naturally growing substance, there should be color and grain variances expected in your newly purchased item.  As I make a pen and pencil set, when at all possible, the pieces are cut from the same board and successively in line (one piece after the other) so that grain flow and color are as closely matching as possible. However, I have no control over any differences or variances between two pieces of wood. This in and of itself is one of the many sought after wonders of natural wood products. Wood expands (swells) and contracts (shrinks) with humidity changes.

Guarantees/return policy: (1) My parts supplier guarantees the metal pieces of the pens against tarnishing, fading and peeling for the life of the pen;  providing that the epoxy coating has not been damaged. There are three coats of clear epoxy on the gold parts. This provides a great deal of resistance to wear from daily use. If you should drop your item and scratch the epoxy coating and expose the gold, it will then begin to fade or tarnish. We can do nothing about that. If the epoxy coating is intact and fading, tarnishing or peeling has occurred, return the item to us and I'll replace the damaged piece for only the cost of shipping.     (2) The wood cannot be guaranteed beyond that of shipping damage. If you receive your item in a damaged condition, return it to me immediately for replacement. (3) If you're unsatisfied with any item purchased from Wood Grain Pens for any reason once you receive it, return it to me within thirty (30) days for a full refund. If a center band on your designer pen ever comes loose, simply send it back to me and I'll repair it for free.
